Dining Room Eating - Kiss the 'food binge' goodbye

Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa are common terms that are used these days, and as a result of being so conscious of the fat levels present in ones body, its remarkable that so many people succumb to these eating disorders at its extremes.

In the case of anorexia, almost 10 to 25 percent of the people who fight with this eating disorder die. Conversely, almost 2 to 5 percent of the American population suffer from binging on food, although personally, I think that figure should be much higher.

But is it a physical or a mental disorder?

If you havent noticed, the word nervosa was added to the aforementioned eating disorders which should tell you that it all begins in the mind.

A fascinating quote I read somewhere kind of puts it into perspective, and here it is: "Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny."

As grand as this quote might seem, the truth is that almost everything good or bad starts with a choice that is made in the mind. And if you keep at it, it becomes a habit.

And this word habit pertains to not only negative ones like drinking and smoking in excess or binging on food but good habits as well! Like making a decision to exercise at least twice a week until it becomes a part of you

Mindless Snacking

Yet if you look a little deeper at negative habits, it all stems from addiction, which if understood from the quotes point of view it has become a part of your character.

Almost all of us will have our vices but if we let these habits control us, that really turns your life upside down and the trauma that individuals face when in rehab can give you a pretty decent picture of what people will do to feed the habit if they cant handle the de-addiction process.

Binging on food is no different minus the extreme behavior, of course but the effect that it has on weight control is something that is becoming more and more observable in the United States. Yes, there are more obese and overweight people than ever and its because of junk food.

Blaming the government for poor health is no excuse when your habits arent in order!

In addition to this, if you didnt know this, obesity is one of the biggest reasons why people succumb to all kinds of diseases, which is really, the opposite of staying healthy.

So your question might be: I want to quit but I just dont know how to

Smart Ways to stop binging

Research has revealed that people who eat snacks while watching television end up eating much more than usual. One way to handle this is to substitute these delights with good snacks.

Another countermeasure is to only restrict your meals to dining room eating, and not while you are doing anything else! Finally, if you want to go the whole nine yards, then ensuring that you dont bring junk food into your home is another firm step towards a healthier life.

Actually, you can start with the first two methods, and use the last one when you have been able to control the urge to binge
